Tiki Lounge in Paddington

Enter this exotic space on bustling Oxford Street!

Step off the hustle and bustle of Sydney’s Oxford Street and you will find the Tiki Lounge; an exclusive exotic escape located below the funky Rambutan Thai Restaurant. And if it’s Wednesday eve, there’s no other place you should frequent than here!

The newly launched Fried Rice Wednesdays night offers a generous serving of free fried rice with any order. Mmm! I’m talking premium fried rice, not the el cheapo kind. Freebies aside, I don’t need bait to venture down to Tiki because the alluring venue speaks for itself.

Equipped with an impressive bar, it’s the perfect rendezvous to sip cocktails and down some classy taster dishes with friends. There’s a casually sophisticated ambience created by an in-wall tropical fish tank, contemporary Missoni fabrics and flamboyant décor which makes you feel like you’re dining in the company of Chuck Bass from Gossip Girl. Okay, okay. I’m slightly exaggerating with the Bass reference.

When it comes to the menu, I’m a big fan of crispy silken tofu with tamari sauce ($9), vegetarian curry puffs with traditional tai peanut ad-jar sauce ($5) and Thai steamed chicken and prawn sweet corn dumplings with plum sauce ($12).

Unlike other restaurants, the chef has an appreciated knack for delivering morsels that are drizzled with just the right amount of oil; neither super oily or ultra dry. Our curry puffs in particular were so moist on the inside without the all too common greasy exterior that will smear your mouth with a sickeningly bad taste.

It’s safe to say that the bar staffs’ expertise are on par with the chef; boasting the best ability and service in Sydney. They’re very informative, accommodating and quick to recommend highlight dishes and drinks with absolutely no pretension or arrogance.

My friends and I were fascinated when my flaming ginger and lemon pina colada I scream ($16) cocktail was cleverly presented in a coconut and set alight flaming Moe al la Simpsons style. Pretty cool! And if you’re not into drinking or consumed too much, the mocktails are just as delicious as the real things. We recommend the Kaffir and apple envy on a pond ($7) and the Rambutan and apple rumble crumble ($7).

More silken tofu, Meals! It’s a must. I didn’t try the mocktails with you… they are lovely! We’ll have to go again for shiz x.

Seems like an alright place Mish!

I had a look at the menu and the ones I’d most probably favour are your picks as well, minus the chicken and prawn dumplings though! Although the stir fried wild mushrooms with ginger, tofu and cashew nuts could be alright too.
