BRMC @ The Metro
Contrary to certain belief… Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are anything but horrible live.
I recently saw the dark clothed beasts headline Sydney’s Metro Theatre and can definitely vouch that the addition of new drummer, Leah Shappiro, has brought the band back to par.
It’s been just over two years since the band toured down under. They returned broke from their last tour, so it was a real treat to have them in Sydney again to share their sixth album with us.
We were positioned directly infront of bassist, Robert Levon Been, and were amazed at his energy and ability. He seriously reminds me of a Jeff Buckley/Steven Morissey concoction. Leah drums so solid. As for the cultured Peter Hayes… he just oozes talent.
In short, the concert was everything I could have hoped for. Playing the rarity Shade of Blue live made my year and Shadow’s Keeper was the sugared cherry on top. I’m really impressed with the new album and feel it harks back to the whole Take Them On, On Your Own sound. Lovely!
Anyway, I’m not intending to write a long review. I just wanted to share some pretty ace snaps that my mate Beau is dying to see!

a rainy and cold night greeted BRMC fans at the metro but once inside anticipation was high.
Having read reviews and spoken to friends about the current Australian BRMC tour it was apparent we were in for a treat.
However my ears were made to work for that treat as i endured quite possibly the worst band i have ever witnessed Support act Mancini 500 (i think that’s what their called) were bloody atrocious, My god no formal song structure, no clear beat and no future in my opinion and i am sure the 1000 strong crowd felt the same.
By the time 9pm rolled around lights dimmed and War Machine featured first Mama Taught Me Better and Red Eyes and Tears was also up there as the crowd witnessed an Intense, Intimate and Amazing performance by these lads and lady i might add.
To myself and Michelle’s delight Shade Of Blue made the cut tonight And Punk Song Kept the crowd craving more.
A beautiful acoustic set quietened the place down and BRMC Displayed what a diverse range of Genre’s they cover in their catalog.
They headed off for an Encore after delivering the crowd a extended version of Six Barrel Shotgun
Shadow’s Keeper and Open Invitation finished off the show nicely and my bet is that not one person left the metro unsatisfied.
All those rumors that BRMC couldn’t quite cut it live were surely put to bed once and for all.
I know myself and Michelle won’t be forgetting this show in a hurry
P.s Many thanks go to Mish for all the rad shots since this silly guy left his camera in the car

Aww, Beau! That was such an ace review… wayyyy better than my summary.
Gosh, I forgot about that support act.
Get your buttocks to Manic Street Preachers and hopefully an Interpol gig if it’s on the horizon x.
