Baby Lion Cub Day, Hurrah!

The countdown has ceased and our highly anticipated event is finally here. It’s Baby Lion Cub Day!

Basically we had a spare morning scheduled to visit a zoo and hit up a REAL South African Safari abounding with zebras, meerkats, lions, coyotes, giraffes and did I mention baby lion cubs?

It was quite amazing to see these native animals in their natural habitat interacting without a care in the world, as opposed to being confined behind bars in a commercialised zoo.

Our very zealous tour guide shared interesting facts and memorable stories while she drove us around the park in a safari buggy. One true story which caught my ear regards a man who was so desperate to run with the lions, he broke into the park after hours, approached his lion “friends,” ran with them and subsequently was brutally attacked.

The lion devoured only the man’s genitals and left the offending trespasser to die. Why? Why run with lions? Who wants to do that, considering lions are not domesticated pets like your dog? It’s the wild! I bet he has since learnt his lesson while looking down from heaven, or wherever his soul may be, lurking unbeknownst in the universe.

Anyway, back to pleasant things. The lion cubs were absolutely adorable! I’m not going to write a whole par on them; you can see for yourself from my photograph below. Oh, and when I stroked the sleepy cub’s side, it felt exactly the same as patting a puppy. Aww.

Aaw.. how cool is that! So sleepy though. I wonder if they had just eaten when you saw them?

I hope they got to see their mum though at times.

Meerkats? Them be some crazy critters. Saw a couple fighting one time over some bugs.

Shocking story about the man and what happened to his goolies there. Not a story to be told before bedtime!
