Smirnoff Mixology Session feat. Kenji Jesse
As part of preparation for the main event, Smirnoff held an exclusive Mixology Session featuring worldwide Smirnoff mixologist.
I took part in to the best of my ability!
Here, a group of 30 or so media/vodka enthusiasts were quick to learn the secrets of nailing Kenji’s perfect mixology formula. We were also treated to a vibrant history lane lecture of vodka production, including the distilling and fermentation processes. I am stunned to hear my favourite drink is made from potatoes, seriously!
The charismatic Kenji additionally taught us “soon-to-be vodka-mixologist-pros” how to discern the difference between run-of-the-mill vodka and the more prestigious, smooth stuff in such a charming manner. Clearly after a blind test (el cheapo brand, Absolut and Smirnoff Red), coupled with a shot tasting experiment of our own, Smirnoff Black came out on top. Since mixology graduation was almost near, it was time to put our skills – and freshly equipped theory – to the test. There was no hiding now.
First off, my Venezuelan buddy Francisco and I creatively collaborated in a bid to create our very own fruity vodka concoction. With watermelon, pineapple, lime, jam and basil leaves, it went alright after it was infused with vodka, tonic, ice and sugar syrup.
My second attempt was way better. Here we were challenged to replicate a classic Moscow Mule; except this time, we were truly inspired to be original and mix it up a little.
My choice: Smirnoff Black laced with ginger beer, lime, ice, basil and jam. I nervously await my verdict and to my surprise, Kenji rates my drink with a thumb up. Hell yeah!

Love Smirnoff! They’ve got some wicked fruit flavours.
Your mix sounds interesting as well. I’ll have to try mixing one up myself sometime.
Watched your Smirnoff Mixology vids Mish.
I’m putting in my order now for a Smirnoff tasteful experience.
