August 20th, 2010MusicProducing a string of international hits without releasing an album in the space of four years isn’t the norm for most artists. But Australian electro-pop outfit Miami Horror aren’t your average musicians playing by the rules. The band started off as a solo endeavour turned augmented four-piece live incarnation who incessantly test the boundaries of electro territory. On the brink of debut album Illumination hitting shelves, I chatted with founding mastermind Benjamin Plant to discuss its conception.

August 15th, 2010VideoLast month I caught up for a backstage chat with Australia’s finest vocals, Mr Guy Sebastian. He’s a pretty cool cat - so the video maker in me wanted to mix a fun, sexy, casually-sophisticated video for Guy’s fans that’s far from your typical, everyday interview offering repeated information which people already know.

August 4th, 2010MusicContrary to certain belief… Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are anything but horrible live. I recently saw the dark clothed beasts headline Sydney’s Metro Theatre and can definitely vouch that the addition of new drummer, Leah Shappiro, has brought the band back to par.

July 29th, 2010MusicForget publishing two books, launching your own Los Angeles art exhibit and making up 1/5th of alternative rock band Incubus – whose album sales exceed 18 million worldwide. Our favourite multifaceted frontman Brandon Boyd has brought an anticipated solo debut album, The Wild Trapeze, to the table. And while it’s anything but your booty shaking, one-hit wonder loving pop bandwagon music that our Western culture so often praises, this impressive milestone should be judged on its own individual excellence.
ALBUM RATING: 8/10

Not everyone in the world lives in picture-perfect, white-picket fence Hallmark land, where it rains jelly beans and pleasantly smells like sought after new car scent. So the folks at Bluntcard have brought us back to reality by creating candid cards full of alarming sayings. They’re available in printed and electronic form. So next time you lack the audacity to say what we’re all thinking anyway, trust in Bluntcard. -

Styled by Andrej Skok and nostalgically photographed by Marton Perlaki, the chisel-faced dreamboats are reminiscent of vampire protagonist Edward Cullen.

June 21st, 2010MusicI was hooked the minute I heard the captivating opening guitar riff in Ghostwood’s I Am Overcast. It’s got a glitzy Brit shoegaze feel that flirts with psychedelic elements.

June 21st, 2010VideoOn May 12th 2010, the good people at Splendid Communications sent me on a media trip to Johannesburg, South Africa as part of the Smirnoff Experience. The video journo in me has finally completed a mini-documentary on the event itself; as well as interviewing Tiësto, playing with baby lion cubs, biking around Soweto village, and nights out, among other things.

Our favourite infinitely interesting Incubus front man, Brandon Boyd, has been in the studio this week filming the video clip to his side project debut single, Runaway Train. It’s rather amazing to say the least and ripe with Boyd’s matchless acuity; the deep, intelligent, melodious lyrics and soaring C5 notes that leave you feeling wholeheartedly inspired.Brandon Boyd – Runaway Train

Suffice to say, I was blessed by the fashion Gods of the world this week when I received an exclusive sneak peek inside Eleventh Commandment’s Made in Space Spring/Summer 2010 collection with co-founder/designer himself, Henry Holland.
